According to the APC, quality dogs should be about 3-7 inches and should have a good undercoat. They should also have a pronounced stop so that their head does not look like in other Nordic breeds. Purebred dogs that come from responsible breeders may be registered with the APC.

The APC is instrumental in promoting the breed is a parent organization throughout the United States. It is licensed by the AKC and encourages breeders breed dogs according to the AKC standard.
