Poms that are found in shelters are usually grown-ups already and do not need housebreaking. They are spayed or neutered and receive veterinary care before going to a new home. Expenses are usually covered by a small donation.

Shelters for dogs by breed are now distributed throughout the country and there are many organizations that re-home abandoned and abused Poms. The importance of this work cannot be overestimated as these poor dogs need love and affection and are likely to pass away without care.
